When you lose in life, never lose the lesson. It was announced yesterday that surf label Quiksilver was filing for bankruptcy.
One expert in an article on the situation said Quiksilver’s troubles came after they acquired new stores and brands in order to increase their sales channels. Their plan for growth wasn’t successful. And the lesson that came from that can apply to all of us with growth and our businesses:
“They’ve taken their eye off their core brand and core operations and have started to lose money.
“The issue with any brand which moves from a specific marketing to positioning itself as a more global, corporate-type operation is that they cannot lose the culture and processes that made them into a very strong brand in the first place.”
