Must.lose.weight.
Must.be.healthier.
Must.eat.better.
These mantras run through the brains of, oh, about 80% of our brains. At least until mid-morning anyway, just before that scone run. There are sooo many businesses offering services and products to cater to this large target market, which Trendsetting term Betterment: the universal quest for self-improvement. I read about three that you might find interesting (always good for a bit of water-cooler talk)…
1. CUPTIME – a smart cup designed in China that connects wirelessly to a cellphone and allows the owner to monitor their water intake. You pop in your height and weight and the cup will track to check you are drinking enough, giving you a ‘hydration performance’ score.
2. NIKE – personalised posters display exercise progress. I can just imagine what mine would look like (not great!) but in Feb Nike launched a website that creates personalised posters for Nike FuelBrand wearers, showing exercise patterns, sleeping habits and work routines… for free.
3. MY FAV: LEAN MACHINE ALE – low-calorie beer that (apparently) aids post-workout recovery. It’s a Canadian-based beverage that’s gluten-free, made from all natural ingredients and vitamin-enriched. It aids muscle recovery, boosts the immune system and rehydrates the body. No word on how it tastes!
Can any of your products or services address the Betterment trend? It’s a biggie! Let me know if you need some help brainstorming.
We have actually launched some software that is all about betterment too: AccMe. We think it is pretty cool and early users seem to like and can see it adding value to them – check it out at accme.com. For all business coaching or consulting, contact me: zac@businesschanging.com
