Not sure how your 2012 went, but 2013 can be a better year. Not as simple as clicking your fingers but…
So how do you do it? Take time out to think on your business and then give yourself time to actually implement your great ideas you had. This will take discipline and also honesty with yourself to face reality with what you must address… I am a big believer (and tell all my clients) in scheduling “10:30am, Tuesday in your diary every week” to go and have a half hour coffee with yourself (yum!) to critique what is really happening in your business, and giving yourself the time to think about what you can do to fix it and also to consider all the opportunities that you are not making the most of (and then do something about it)…
A simple way is to think about how you would like your business to look in 12 months time and then work backwards, identifying what you must do to get there (and what changes must be made for you to get there)… You all know inherently if you have a formal goal, you will have a better chance of achieving it. When you break your business down into “steps” to achieve your ultimate goals, it is not as daunting.
You will need to face reality – do you have any elephants in the room that you have been putting off addressing? No excuses, you need to address, those “bits” in your business that frustrate you.
There are many questions that you could ask to dive deep into your business to help identify what you should be focusing on and changing. Feel free to contact me if you would like some external help on these questions that must be asked.
You will need to make sure that you are really walking the talk too in your business. If you have staff, they will be watching you 24/7 and taking their lead from you. Where can you personally improve? Where would you “not follow you” if you had to work for yourself? It takes wide shoulders to be able to critique your own performance objectively and to be able to take constructive feedback from your team on where you can improve.
Your greater team will have a lot of good ideas that could help to make 2013 an even better year… Do you have an effective and open way of getting ideas from your team and also for them to let you know where in the business things are not humming and they are not able to be as effective as they could be.
Here is to you having a great 2013! Help is there if you need it… zac@businesschanging.com or 021 775 660 or www.businesschanging.com
